How To Introduce two Cats to Each Other Properly

1.  Swapping scents

The first step to getting kittens or cats introduced to each other is to swap their bedding so they can smell each other's scents without seeing each other.  So swap bedding, toys and even litter trays!  They should sniff the swapped items for a while then get used to the new smells.

2.  Let them hear each other

Next, you can start to introduce them to each other's sounds.  This lets them know someone new is there without overwhelming them.  With a door in between the two cats, start playing with one of them.

You can swap over to the other cat or play with it under the door.

3.  Meeting Through a Cage

Next, it's time to let the cats see each other.  For this, I got two dog cages, placed them far enough apart so that they couldn't reach each other than put the cats into the cages.

Leave them in the cage until they both relax and calm down.  You can also feed them in the cages as I find when animals eat together they relax more.  I would do this once a day for a few days until they no longer react.

4.  The Final meet

Once you think your cats have been introduced properly through the cages it's time to let them out!  You can either let one cat out to go over to the other one's cage or just let them both out.  I would rather let them both out as one cat stuck in a cage will react worse because he will feel stuck.

Now you just have to leave them to it!  If things get too violent then you may have to separate them but if they just have a little fight then let them.
